Description

Owing to the Absence I is an original ink-on-paper portrait from Bartosz Beda’s Owing to the Absence series (2022–23). A face takes shape within a storm of black ink — features suggested in broad strokes and splattered marks, eyes steady against the turbulence surrounding them. The figure feels both emerging and vanishing, as if caught mid-thought.

Beda’s ink technique pairs controlled drawing with explosive chance: flung splatters, dripping washes, and pooling blacks share the paper with delicate, deliberate lines. The result is a portrait of presence under pressure — someone there, and someone already gone.
