Description
Owing to the Absence 9 confronts the viewer head-on: a frontal portrait set within dense, velvety fields of black ink. The face is built from layered washes and decisive contours, the eyes dark pools that anchor the entire composition, while the edges of the form dissolve into the paper.
Created in 2022–23, 77 × 56 cm, ink on paper. The work’s directness makes its subject feel urgently present — and all the more haunting for the absence its title names.
