Description
Owing to the Absence 31 is an original ink-on-paper work from Bartosz Beda’s Owing to the Absence series (2022–23). A dark, circular mass of ink anchors the composition, its edges softening into dilute gray washes that drift across the paper like weather. The circle pulls the eye inward even as stray splatters and thin lines escape outward, holding absence and presence in a single gesture.
Working in black ink alone, Beda builds depth through layered washes — from opaque black to near-transparent gray — letting chance and control share the surface. Each mark feels provisional, as though the image might dissolve back into the paper at any moment.
